Delaware County Public Transportation Map and Guide Is Available

A significant portion of Delaware County is served by SEPTA, which means that most County residents have access to a reliable transportation network to meet most of their transportation needs. In consideration of this fact, the Delaware County Planning Department has completed the 3^rd edition of the Delaware County Public Transportation Map and Guide, which serves as a reference to SEPTA’s public transit system in Delaware County.

One side shows a map of all bus, regional rail, trolley, and high-speed rail services in Delaware County and certain routes in neighboring Chester and Montgomery Counties and the City of Philadelphia. The map also shows the locations of colleges, shopping centers, hospitals, state and county government office buildings, business centers and office parks, hotels and motels, senior care facilities, and parks and trails. Detailed inset maps show Media, the Darby and Chester Transportation Centers, the 69th Street Transportation Center, and Center City Philadelphia.

Ethics and Law CM at Design on the Delaware

Planners can earn both their Ethics and Law AICP CM at Design on the Delaware conference October 29 – November 1 in Philadelphia.

The conference, in its 11^th year, offers 23 AICP CM accredited programs in addition to the ethics and law courses. Programs cover a range of planning topics including form based zoning, campus planning, Skyplane regulations, SITES rating system, and numerous programs focused on urban and suburban projects. Planners can earn up to 25 AICP CM at the conference.

APAPASE and The Reinvestment Fund are pleased to kick off the 2013-2014 Mentor Program at a mixer held at the TRF office on Thursday, October 24. This will be an opportunity for students and professionals who have been matched as mentees and mentors to meet each other as well as fellow program participants.

ESRI Adds Philadelphia Date for Free Fall Seminar

The Esri-Philadelphia office has added an extra date, Tuesday October 29^th, for our ‘Sharpen Your Skills’ fall seminar in order to provide a location that is convenient for the GIS community in the Philly metro area. The seminar will be held in room 1450 of the Municipal Services Building at 1401 JFK Blvd in Philadelphia. While the event is being hosted by the City of Philadelphia (thanks to OIT and GSG!) it is open to any/all GIS professionals, so please feel free to share this invitation with other friends and colleagues who may be interested. Oct. 15: Penn’s Landing Public Meeting

The Master Plan for the Central Delaware River waterfront proposed a new vision for Penn’s Landing: a spacious green park, sloping gently towards the river, connecting Chestnut and Walnut Streets from Front Street, over I-95, and across Columbus Blvd.

DRWC is now moving the conceptual plan to the next phase! The design team, led by Hargreaves Associates, is creating a plan for the site that incorporates landscape architecture, urban design, engineering, programming, development, and cost estimates. Join us for a presentation and discussion about the next phase of this exciting project!

As many of you may have realized, access to data through the U.S. Census Bureau’s web site is not available during the current government shutdown. As an FYI, DVRPC has downloaded much of the 2006-2010 and 2007-2011 American Community Survey data for our nine-county region and for the entire Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, searchable at the links below.

Have You Used www.acsdatausers.org Yet?

If you use American Community Survey (ACS) data in your day-to-day planning work, you might be interested in a new website that was created through a partnership between the U.S. Census Bureau, the Population Reference Bureau (PRB) and Sabre Systems: http://www.acsdatausers.org/. The website is a new American Community Survey Data Users Group. The purpose of the ACS Data Users Group is to improve understanding of the value and utility of ACS data and to promote information sharing among data users about key ACS data issues and applications.

Membership in the group is free and open to all interested ACS data users. The group is led by a Steering Committee comprised of selected external stakeholders representing a broad spectrum of data users with different interests. To facilitate communication among ACS data users, PRB and Sabre Systems will maintain an online community forum, organize webinars and special sessions at professional meetings, and hold an annual ACS Data Users Conference.
