Design Philadelphia is bringing together different design associations in a free event to help make the infrastructure of the design community stronger in Philly by collaborating.

Come out and meet designers across Philadelphia over drinks and snacks. Chit chat, share ideas, and hear short lightning speed presentations from local representatives of American Institute of Architects (AIA), Delaware Valley Association of Structural Engineers (DVASE), Pennsylvania-Delaware American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), Association for Preservation Technology (APT), Industrial Design Society of America (IDSA), The International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA), International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), International Interior Design Association (IIDA), and yes us, the American Planning Association, Pennsylvania Chapter, Southeast Section (APAPASE)!

Oct. 28-30: Design on the Delaware

The Design on the Delaware conference features 20 AICP CM approved programs offering 33 credits, and 1.5 law and 1.5 ethics credits.   Courses include Philadelphia’s Civic Design Review Process Update; Bartram’s Mile – Revitalizing the Lower Schuylkill Waterfront; Communities Create, Build Their Futures;  The Impact of Health in Planning: Creating the Environment for Healthy Living; Infrastructure Impediments to Smart Growth Projects; and the tours From Plan to Reality: Green2015 Coming to Life and Urban Land Trusts as Tools for Fighting Vacancy.

APA members from any chapter are entitled to the discounted member registration.  New this year, single session a la carte pricing is available.  You can register for an individual course(s) ($35 – $50), for a full day ($200), or two days ($275).   October 30 programs and tours are individually priced.  Early registration pricing (above) ends midnight October 11.  Go to www.designonthedelaware.com for conference details and registration.

Nov. 12-14: Design on the Delaware

If you missed the APA PA State Conference….you can get your AICP CM Credits at this year’s Design on the Delaware, November 12 – 14, 2014 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel and Center for Architecture

The conference offers 23 Accredited AICP CM.  You can earn up 15 AICP CM including the 1.5 AICP CM Law requirement.

Course topics include green infrastructure, creating parks and other public spaces, transportation infrastructure, designing trails, business campus planning, riverfront planning, stormwater management, form-based code and more.

Registration fees as low as $235 for November 12th or 13th; $325 for November 12th and 13th. Individually priced tours are available November 14th .

Design on the Delaware Proposal Deadline Extended to May 2

Share your expertise, experience, and leadership in the design and building industry by presenting a program or tour at the 12th Annual Design on the Delaware Conference in Philadelphia.

AIA Philadelphia is accepting program proposals for the 2014 Design on the Delaware conference taking place November 12 -14, 2014, at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel and Center for Architecture. This multi-disciplinary conference for architects, planners, landscape architects, engineers, and other design and building professionals features four keynotes speakers, 36 professional education programs, three days of tours and a full day design charrette.

Deadline for proposals has been extended to Friday, May 2.  Submissions must meet the guidelines as outlined in the Call for Programs. To download the Call for Programs, visit www.designonthedelaware.com.

Share your expertise, experience, and leadership in the design and building industry by presenting a program at the 12th Annual Design on the Delaware Conference in Philadelphia.

Program proposals are now being accepted for the 2014 Design on the Delaware conference taking place November 12 -14, 2014, at the Sheraton Philadelphia Downtown Hotel and Center for Architecture. This multi-disciplinary conference for planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, and other design and building professionals features four keynotes speakers, 36 professional education programs, three days of tours and a full day design charrette.  In addition to programs that could qualify for general AICP CM credits, programs that could provide AICP Law or Ethics credits are encouraged.*

Programs cover a range of planning topics including form based zoning, campus planning, Skyplane regulations, SITES rating system, and numerous programs focused on urban and suburban projects.  Planners can earn up to 25 AICP CM at the conference.

APA members are entitled to the discounted member registration.  Registration for October 29 & 30 is just $265. APA PA has been a collaborating organization offering members discounted registration rates since the first conference in 2001.

Ken Greenberg to Speak at Design on the Delaware Conference

Ken Greenberg

Ken Greenberg, architect, urban designer, teacher, writer, former Director of Urban Design and Architecture for the City of Toronto and Principal of Greenberg Consultants, will speak at 11th Annual Design on the Delaware conference, October 29 – November 1 in Philadelphia.

Mr. Greenberg has played a pivotal role on public and private assignments in urban settings throughout North America and Europe, focusing on the rejuvenation of downtowns, waterfronts, neighborhoods and on campus master planning, regional growth management, and new community planning. Cities as diverse as Toronto, Hartford, Amsterdam, New York, Boston, Montréal, Washington DC, Paris, Detroit and San Juan Puerto Rico have benefited from his advocacy and passion for restoring the vitality, relevance and sustainability of the public realm in urban life. Greenberg will present “City Building with Nature in Mind” on Tuesday, October 29 during the morning General Session.
