Get Involved in AICP Early!

Are you a planning student or recent graduate? APA has a new opportunity for you!

If you are in or have recently graduated from a program accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board (PAB), you can join the AICP Candidate Pilot Program, starting in November 2017.

The new AICP Candidate Pilot Program provides a path to start the process to earn the prestigious AICP Certification earlier. Join the program and sit for the AICP Certification Exam after you graduate, when you’re still in the test-taking mindset.

The criteria to become AICP remain the same, but the order of the steps changes.

Apply for Philadelphia Citizen Planning Institute by 9/20!

Citizens Planning Institute (CPI) will be accepting applications for the Fall 2017 course from August 30th – September 20th. This seven-week course empowers citizens to take a more effective and active role in shaping the future of their neighborhoods and of Philadelphia through a greater understanding of city planning and the steps involved in development projects.

Special topics this session include Diversifying Your Organization, Fixing Neighborhood Issues – L&I and 311, and Resources for Neighborhood Development. There are more details on the courses in Fall 2017 CPI course summaries.

Classes are held on Wednesday evenings October 11th – November 15th from 6-9 pm at 1515 Arch Street in Center City.

Teach Green Values: Become a Keep Philadelphia Beautiful Ambassador

Keep Philadelphia Beautiful (KPB) is looking for passionate volunteers to serve as sustainability ambassadors at School District of Philadelphia schools. Sustainability ambassadors will be responsible for leading presentations on neighborhood beautification measures, such as recycling and composting.

KPB provides in-person training and presentation materials to ambassadors prior to engagement activities. The presentations have been developed with the Philadelphia Streets Department and the School District of Philadelphia through the District’s GreenFutures initiative (GreenFutures). A commitment of 2, 1-hour presentations per semester is required, and volunteers will be assigned to schools that have expressed interest in the program.

Professional planners from Chester County are invited to attend the fall 2017 Chester County Planners’ Forum from 8 a.m.-10 a.m. Oct. 5 at the East Whiteland Township Building, 209 Conestoga Road in Frazer, Pa. At the event, Chester County Planning Commission staff will provide an update on Landscapes3, the county’s next long-range plan, and the Chester Valley Trail Extension to Downingtown. There also will be presentations from guest speakers about development trends in Great Valley, an economic development plan for the Kennett area, and riparian buffer ordinances. RFP: FDR Park Master Plan

Fairmount Park Conservancy working with Philadelphia Parks & Recreation seeks proposals from qualified and creative design teams to perform a master plan for the 348-acre Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) Park in South Philadelphia. The master plan will investigate, analyze and recommend approaches to enhance FDR’s ecology, landscape and built environments. The master plan will also seek to create a shared vision for reinvestment among park managers, adjacent institutions, stewards, non-profits and general park users.
