Blair Christian Academy (Philadelphia, PA) won the American Planning Association, PA Chapter, Southeast Section Special Award for Planning Excellence at the Future City Philadelphia Competition on Saturday, January 19. The theme for this year’s competition was “Powering Our Future.” Greater Philadelphia middle schools students were asked to design a future city with an electrical grid that could withstand and recover from natural disaster.
The Blair Christian Academy team featured above with their teacher, Willette Whitaker, and mentor, Derrick Whitaker, PE (Burns Engineering).

The Chester County Planning Commission has released a new video that highlights Landscapes3, Chester County’s newly adopted comprehensive plan: http://ow.ly/Mvdh30ngE80. The video discusses how the plan provides a template for growth and preservation for the next 10 years. The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association is soliciting proposals from firms who are interested and qualified to provide Legislative Monitoring Consulting Services. It is the intent of the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association to select a single consultant to accomplish all services outlined in this Request for Proposals.
The Borough of Wyomissing, Berks County, is soliciting written proposals for the preparation of a Master Plan Study for the Penn Avenue and Park/North Park Road corridors, and the Berkshire Heights area of the Borough.
The study will provide an objective review of available options for re-development and economic development, and will establish baseline information related to the physical, social and economic context of the area. It will also include a list of action items the Borough can complete to assist in economic development and re-development of the areas identified.

HCTF’s first racial equity workshop The Impact of Racism and Trauma and Learning How to Work with People Who Have Been Traumatized, will be offered on both Wednesday, January 30th and Tuesday, February 26th from 9:00am to 12:30pm at DVRPC. The workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Jade Logan, Ph.D., ABPP, Assistant Professor of Psychology at Chestnut Hill College and counselor with The Ladipo Group. The workshop agenda, as well as additional information on Dr. Jade Logan and the Ladipo Group, are attached. Registration for a second workshop on Communication Strategies for Discussions about Race, Microagressions, and Unconscious Bias will be announced at a later date.

Historically, people from underrepresented groups have encountered ongoing experiences of oppression throughout their lifetimes. These experiences have impacted their mental health and the social conditions in which they live. The first workshop has three major objectives:
The facilitator will use case examples, small group discussions, and role-plays to engage participants throughout the workshop. The overarching goal will be to provide a historical context to facilitate understanding and inform effective communication and interactions.
