We’re honored to have Dean Taylor as our 2^nd speaker in the Landscape speaker series. Karen Thompson from the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation will be asking her all of this and more.

Please join fellow planners in the Southeast Section of the APAPA at our 2015 Annual Event! For this year’s event, we are inviting you to check out Mural Arts’ Open Source, a citywide celebration of art and innovation! This experiential and educational program created a new series of public artworks that explore and illuminate Philadelphia’s diverse urban identity, and encouraged artists to engage in community-centered explorations, addressing a variety of topics, including immigration, recycling, mass incarceration, the environment, community reinvestment, and displacement—all of which inform Mural Arts’ long-term artistic and social practice.

The Design on the Delaware conference features 20 AICP CM approved programs offering 33 credits, and 1.5 law and 1.5 ethics credits. Courses include Philadelphia’s Civic Design Review Process Update; Bartram’s Mile – Revitalizing the Lower Schuylkill Waterfront; Communities Create, Build Their Futures; The Impact of Health in Planning: Creating the Environment for Healthy Living; Infrastructure Impediments to Smart Growth Projects; and the tours From Plan to Reality: Green2015 Coming to Life and Urban Land Trusts as Tools for Fighting Vacancy.

APA members from any chapter are entitled to the discounted member registration. New this year, single session a la carte pricing is available. Millennials are driving new housing and commercial activity in big cities. Twenty somethings want density, walkability, mixed uses, and transit. So far, Millennials aren’t enthusiastic homeowners or car owners. Given this, can the suburbs really compete for the biggest generation yet?

Nov. 12: Healthy Communities Task Force Meeting

DVRPC’s Healthy Communities Task Force meeting will be held on Thursday, November 12, 2015 from 10am to 12pm. This meeting will focus on equity and active transportation with presentations on the state of active transportation and equity, how complete streets policies affect different communities, and what Philadelphia’s bike share program, Indego, has done to be more inclusive.

DVRPC’s Regional Community and Economic Development Forum (RCEDF) will meet next Friday, October 9^th at DVRPC to discuss the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services’ EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program. The meeting will begin with a program overview and, with its authorizing legislation set to expire on September 30^th, a discussion of what the future holds for it. The overview will be followed by a discussion of how EB-5 has been used to fund various projects in Greater Philadelphia. Attached is the agenda – if you have not already done so, please RSVP by emailing RCEDF_RSVP@dvrpc.org no later than Wednesday, October 7^th if you are planning to attend. There is no charge for this event.
