Aug. 17: 9th Street Italian Market Tour

Planners might be interested in an upcoming tour of the Italian Market arranged by Young Involved Philadelphia (YIP) The 9th Street Italian Market is at the heart of one of the most vibrant neighborhoods in Philadelphia. It is also one of the oldest and largest outdoor markets in the US. Discover the tastes, sounds, and history of this eclectic shopping and eating emporium during this fascinating food tour. Talk to charismatic shop owners, purchase an array of fresh and specialty food, and learn about this area’s wonderful history. We’ll end the tour near Pat’s King of Steaks, so you can choose to stick around and order a cheesesteak wit or without for lunch. Tickets cost $20 and must be reserved in advance. Bring extra cash if you want to buy a cheesesteak afterward. Tour starts at 9th & South at 10:30 AM and ends at 12:30 PM. Remember to wear comfortable shoes!

Anderson Housing Project is a significant precedent affordable housing development in Center City Philadelphia that has been undertaken to specifically address the needs of senior citizens in Center City Philadelphia. In the gay community, this demographic group has been overlooked in programming and community planning initiatives until recently. Lessons learned will be shared for an in-house and national (via webinar) audience, highlighting the project management/development, senior programming, LGBT needs, funding, and planning perspectives.

An overview of Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission’s (DVRPC’s) Renewable Energy Ordinance Frameworks, which include a menu of permissive and restrictive ordinance language options; accompanied by explanatory guidance on the barriers, benefits and cautions for adopting language will be provided. Additionally, panelists will address the key issues surrounding the regulation of each type of renewable energy system at the municipal level.
