APA-PA’s Central Section is hosting a full day workshop May 18th in Harrisburg on various aspects of stormwater management.  Attendees will learn why stormwater regulations have continued to evolve, how one county is leading a successful collaborative regional effort to reduce the cost of regulatory compliance, and what a municipality can expect if EPA comes knocking. A presentation on stormwater best management practices will demonstrate how implementation of such projects can maximize both environmental and economic returns. Additionally, a municipality and its consultant will share their experience with creating a stormwater authority to address planning, funding, design, implementation, and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure.  Registration details are on the attachment.

Chester County Planning Commission Assistant Director David Ward has always appreciated the uniqueness of communities. That passion started when he was young.

 

That’s why it’s fitting that he has worked for the Planning Commission — an organization that assists communities with future growth and preservation — for four decades. He celebrated his 40th anniversary with the agency on April 4. 

 

“Around the state and region, David is not only known as a great planner and leader of the profession, he’s also known as Mr. Chester County,” said Planning Commission Executive Director Brian O’Leary. “When people think of the Chester County Planning Commission, they think of David and his leadership on a wide range of planning issues during his 40 years at the agency.”

The Delaware County Planning Department is sponsoring the Course in Subdivision and Land Development during the evenings of April 27, May 4 and 11. This course deals with the work of planning commissions in the subdivision and land development review process- from pre application meetings through project completion. Extensively revised in 2005, the course emphasizes the MPC as the source of authority to regulate development. Planning commissions have a central role play in the land development process which is an integral part of a community’s comprehensive planning program. New in the course are flexible design concepts and options for better project design.

Topics covered in the course include:

· Calculating impacts of development

Survey: UrbanEyes 3D Mapping

We are a group of NYU students who are researching the feasibility of a brand new technology called UrbanEyes. UrbanEyes is a unique algorithm that processes cloud point data from LiDAR for 3D imaging. It is unlike anything out there and can improve accuracy of images to one inch. If you are interested in becoming a Future City mentor for one of your local schools, or you would simply like to learn more about the program, please tune into our webinar on April 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Mike McAtee, an experienced mentor, will be making a detailed presentation. He will also be taking attendee questions toward the end.

The program also offers other great opportunities for professionals to get involved in their local community by volunteering as a judge, general volunteer, or steering committee member.
