About SOSNA:
The South of South Neighborhood Association (SOSNA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit neighborhood association and Registered Community Organization (RCO) for the area of South Philadelphia bounded by South Street, Broad Street, Washington Avenue and the Schuylkill River. An all-volunteer Board of Directors (“Board”) of 15 members (elected by the neighbors) runs the organization, which is focused on stimulating community and economic development in the neighborhood. SOSNA does so by targeting 5 Initiative Areas: Clean & Green, Community Impact, Economic Development, Safety and Zoning.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the SOSNA Board of Directors, the Programs Manager (PM) is the one paid staff person for SOSNA. The PM acts as the liaison between neighbors and the SOSNA Board of Directors and Committee leaders, working closely to design, organize, promote and implement community projects and programming. The PM works at and staffs the SOSNA office at 1901 Christian Street, and is in many ways the face of the organization, answering emails, phone calls, and greeting walk-ins on a daily basis. The PM attends every meeting of SOSNA Committees or projects and monthly Board meetings.

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Successful candidate must be able to meet light to medium work physical exertion requirements, as position requires moderate physical exertion (neighborhood clean-ups, set-up and break down of meeting spaces, etc.).

Hours:
This position is full-time, with the expectation that the Programs Manager will work approximately 40 hours per week. Evening and weekend meetings and events will be required.
Position Details:
Administration:
- Opens, operates and closes the SOSNA office.
- Maintains SOSNA website and social media accounts.
- Oversees organizational budget, and programming budgets.
- Responds to inquiries and questions from all media – in person, phone, email, website, social media, press etc.
- Coordinates with numerous partner organizations and entities.
- Serves as main point of contact for organization with elected officials and City departments.
- Writes all correspondence for the organization subject to approval of the Board.
Board of Directors Support:
- Works with Board leadership to prepare for monthly Board meetings, including agendas, project updates and Programs Manager report.
- Works with Treasurer and Controller to maintain SOSNA Finances – pays bills, updates Quickbooks, coordinates with accountant, keeps detailed records.
- Coordinates insurance coverage and renewals.
- Write grants and solicits funding for SOSNA and its projects.
Committee/Project Support:
- Attends monthly meetings for each initiative/project committee, working with the group’s leadership to prepare agenda, minutes, etc.
- Executes action items for each initiative/project following each meeting, regularly updating volunteers.
- Plans, promotes and administers special events organized by initiative/project committees, including obtaining permits, soliciting bids, paying contracts, recruiting volunteers, overseeing day-of logistics.
Neighborhood Zoning Support:
- Oversees the community review process for all properties seeking a zoning variance within the neighborhood.
- Coordinates monthly zoning meetings with fellow RCOs, applicants and stakeholders
- Ensures proper notification of community meetings and submission of required documentation. Adheres to all Philadelphia City Planning Commission regulations.
- Coordinates SOSNA Architectural Review Committee (ARC) meetings, takes notes and follows up with applicants/architects.
- With Zoning Committee leadership, drafts and submits all letters to the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
- Testifies at the Zoning Board of Adjustment, Philadelphia City Planning Commission, Civic Design Review, and other administrative bodies and agencies as needed.
- Maintains complete zoning files at SOSNA office.

- Serve on citywide committees where appropriate.
- Attend important citywide functions on behalf of SOSNA where appropriate.
- Testify before elected officials and bodies where necessary.
- Assist constituents resolve quality of life issues.

SUMMARY: Reporting to the Assistant Section Chief of County Planning, the Farmland Program Administrator undertakes tasks addressing all phases of the Montgomery County Agricultural Lands Preservation Program as well as promoting local food and local farms throughout the county. In undertaking these duties, the employee must comply with all requirements established under the Pennsylvania Agriculture Security Act and work closely with the PA Department of Agriculture and County Solicitor’s Office. The employee in this position provides executive services for a 5-member Agricultural Land Preservation Board. The employee is also involved with the Montgomery County farming community through direct contact with farmers, participation in farm organizations, and other special projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Assists in the establishment and maintenance of local agricultural security areas
• Solicits, reviews and recommends action on farm preservation easement applications
• Works with the Solicitor’s office in conducting agricultural land conservation easement settlements
• Submits and presents easement applications to the PA Agricultural Land Preservation Board
• Maintains a good working relationship with the PA Department of Agriculture
• Oversees the installation and maintenance of signs on the county’s preserved farms
• Makes public presentations and attends meetings about farm preservation
• Communicates the program’s progress with an annual report and periodic newsletters
• Plans special events to promote farming and local food, as well as educational seminars for farmers
• Works with the Montgomery County Conservation District in performing annual farm easement inspections

Transportation Modeler/Analyst
The Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) seeks a qualified candidate to join the Office of Modeling and Analysis. The Office of Modeling and Analysis develops and maintains DVRPC’s regional travel simulation models, including a best-in-class trip-based model and a newly developed activity-based model, and applies the models to support a wide range of studies, from traditional highway and transit alternatives analysis to emerging economic impact and resilience analysis. The Office is also actively engaged in integrating open-source and big data for model development and analysis.
The employee will assist the development, maintenance, and enhancement of DVRPC’s regional travel models, and support model applications for various projects undertaken by the agency. Assignments may include programming to support model development and data analysis, conducting and analyzing travel surveys; preparing travel model inputs such as land use, transportation network characteristics, and demographic and employment data; estimating future transportation system demand for long range plans and the design of individual highway and transit facilities; and calculating operational statistics such as travel time, delay, and level-of-service.
This position involves working with public and private sector agencies, decision-makers, and the general public. Work is performed in accordance with well-defined objectives and professional standards under the close technical direction of senior engineers and planners. Qualified candidates should possess solid analytical skills, be detailed-oriented and self-motivated, and have the ability to multi-task.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the development, calibration, validation, and documentation of transportation and land use forecasting models.
- Write computer programs and scripts needed for travel simulations and data analysis.
- Design and conduct various types of travel surveys and data collection for model updates and individual highway and transit studies.
- Support model applications, analyze and summarize model outputs, and present findings and recommendations to technical committees and the public.
- Provide other technical assistance, as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Solid analytical and quantitative skills.
- Hands-on experience with Python, C#, or other programming languages.
- Knowledge of the principles of traffic engineering, econometrics, statistics, or computer science that is applicable to transportation system modeling and analysis.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Access, SQL, or other database programs is desired.
- Knowledge of geographic information systems (GIS) is desired.
- Knowledge of major travel demand modeling software, such as VISUM, CUBE, TransCAD, or EMME, or knowledge of microscopic or mesoscopic simulation software, such as VISSIM, is a bonus.
- Ability to effectively present results of research and technical analyses in oral, written and graphic form.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, planning officials, and the general public.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & TRAINING
ONE YEAR of professional experience in civil engineering, transportation planning, or a related discipline; and a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Garden Outreach and Communications Associate
The Neighborhood Gardens Trust (NGT) is an affiliate of PHS, which acquires and preserves community gardens and shared open spaces to enhance quality of life in Philadelphia’s neighborhoods. NGT owns or leases 35 gardens and open spaces across Philadelphia and is affiliated with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS). The organization is in a period of growth and development as it works to secure land access for twenty additional community gardens in the next three years. NGT is seeking a program associate to strengthen communications with NGT-protected gardens and to support the organizational communications and administration. This is a 30 hours per week position.
Essential Functions:
- Reports to NGT Executive Director.
- Works closely with PHS Garden Program staff to identify and address the needs of NGT-protected gardens.
- Works in conjunction with the NGT Gardeners’ Advisory Committee to strengthen NGT’s citywide network of community gardeners through increased communications and collaborative activities.
- Visit NGT gardens.
- Updates and maintains data on NGT-preserved gardens.
- Develops creative content for NGT communications and marketing materials.
