Job Description:
WRT is seeking an experienced urban designer preferably with an architectural background to work in our campus master planning and urban design practice in Philadelphia. This individual will be expected to work both collectively with team members and individually with oversight to analyze and develop planning and design approaches to campuses and districts with an understanding of building components and typologies. Exploring interplay and relationship between built and natural environment that enriches campuses and districts will be a key to this position. This position offers growth potential for a creative problem solver and motivated individual. The focus of work includes a variety of planning, urban design and architectural projects types and scales including architectural design and master planning of large institutional and educational projects, transit-oriented developments, as well as residential and mixed-use developments. |

Urban Designer – Entry to Mid-Level
Communications and Public Affairs Intern
Assist DVRPC’s Office of Communications and Engagement. The Office is engaged in a wide variety of activities across the Commission, broadly grouped into four overlapping categories: Communications, Engagement, Equity, and Special Initiatives. The intern will assist in developing and editing communications materials, implementing public relations tactics, and providing outreach to organizations in the Philadelphia region. Close supervision is provided by the Communications Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist with several key projects including the Fiscal Year 2015 Annual Report, Environmental Justice Report, monthly e-newsletter, DVRPC website, press releases, special events, and project-specific efforts including CyclePhilly, Classic Towns, and the 2045 Long-Range Plan.
- Assist with various public relations functions including media databases, news clippings, and photo research.
- Assist in planning for DVRPC public open houses and special events including Park(ing) Day on September 18, 2015.
- Research organizations and community groups in the region to target for future outreach, and update current database.
- Research best practices of public involvement, outreach, and general MPO activities.
- Help plan and maintain DVRPC’s social media presence on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Perform related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of and experience with communications, public relations, and public outreach principles.
- Knowledge of community and economic development, transportation and environmental planning, and equity issues.
- Excellent writing and communications skills, including speaking on the telephone with partner organizations and vendors, and writing for social media outlets.
- Ability to prioritize work and multi-task.
- Excellent writing skills and initiative are essential.
- Proficiency in MSOffice XP Software Suite is required.
- Basic knowledge of Philadelphia regional issues and geography.
AVAILABILITY
This position requires a commitment of a minimum of 12 hours per week. This position also requires attendance at some events outside of regular business hours on a limited basis.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & TRAINING
Must be in an approved internship program as part of a college or university, or have a baccalaureate degree in any discipline. Given the complexity of tasks and need to be able to work independently, this internship may be better suited to a person who has already completed a baccalaureate degree or who has substantial work experience.
