Vision 2027 Community Engagement Manager

The Vision 2027 Community Engagement Manager supports the Director of Vision 2027 in designing and implementing Vision 2027, PHS’s new initiative to create and implement an impact-driven strategic plan and business model for its work. The Community Engagement Manager carries primary responsibility for creating and executing a comprehensive community outreach and stakeholder participation process in support of PHS and the Vision 2027 strategic plan, including with the PHS Board, PHS members and volunteers, and other local, regional, and national organizations and stakeholders.

 

Important Deliverables Over Two-Year Period:

The Vision 2027 Team is collectively responsible for the following deliverables:

  • Deliver a Vision 2027 Strategy that defines the needs PHS will address, impact outcomes PHS will deliver against those needs through its horticulture and greening work through 2027, PHS’s geography and audience, and business models to support PHS’s work.  The strategy will be developed in two phases: a draft plan and set of hypotheses around impacts due early in the project, and a final version due near the end of the project.
  • Deliver a robust, sustained community engagement process that uses imaginative tools to solicit meaningful input into the planning process from a diverse coalition of stakeholders.
  • Deliver a thorough analysis of current needs related to PHS’s mission in the Greater Philadelphia Region, best practices in horticulture-driven programming that can be used to address those needs, and interests of philanthropic supporters.
  • Identifying impacts and delivering functioning processes for measuring impact, assessing new project opportunities, and creating multi-year work and financial plans to deliver impact against the strategic outcomes.
  • Deliver all organizational and operational changes needed to implement the strategy, including defining the required changes and implementing the changes in collaboration with staff across the organization.
  • Establish clear messages among PHS staff, stakeholders, and beneficiaries on what PHS works to achieve, how PHS delivers impact, and how PHS supports itself as well as a clear path for generating a pipeline of new program ideas that are aligned with impact areas.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Identify the critical existing and new audiences to engage through the Vision 2027 planning process, including PHS Board members, PHS members, volunteers, and supporters, and other local, regional, and national organizations and constituencies engaged with PHS.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing research, including surveys and interviews, to understand stakeholder needs and priorities in the context of PHS’s mission and Vision 2027 planning.
  • Devise and employ a robust, imaginative, purposeful, and active community engagement plan that solicits meaningful input into Vision 2027, inspires community interest in PHS and its work, and achieves common community understanding of PHS’s role and value in the Greater Philadelphia Region within Vision 2027.
  • Create and manage regular and innovative community engagement initiatives, campaigns, meetings, and events, including workshops, door-to-door conversations, and other “grassroots” outreach and campaign activities that will foster a constant dialogue between PHS and its stakeholders and result in the sustainable growth of PHS’s supporter base.
  • Act as an advocate and voice for PHS activities and connect activities to needs and priorities of different stakeholders, including members, volunteers, philanthropic and other organizations.
  • Establish clear and accountable mechanisms and channels to incorporate community feedback and input into Vision 2027 Strategic Plan and existing and new PHS programs and pilot projects.
  • Support Vision 2027 Director in developing communication plans on Vision 2027 progress, activities, community input, and accountability to all stakeholders.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related fields required (e.g., communications, organizational management); Master’s degree preferred
  • 3-5 years of political campaign, grassroots advocacy, or community organizing experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and execute creative communications and engagement strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead diverse coalitions of organizations and stakeholders and to coalesce disparate constituencies around a common cause
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others to understand and implement change
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Passion for social and environmental change
  • Familiarity with the Philadelphia region a plus
  • Flexible schedule and ability to work some nights and weekends

  • In conjunction with the Vision 2027 Director, develop a rigorous process for assessing sustainability, environmental, horticultural, quality of life, and social equity needs affecting the Greater Philadelphia Region.
  • Conduct research and analysis to understand how sustainability, environmental, horticultural, quality of life, and social equity needs in the Greater Philadelphia Region can be met by advancing PHS’s mission of connecting people with horticulture and creating beautiful, healthy, and sustainable communities.
  • Research global best practices in using horticulture to address those needs, interests of philanthropic supporters in addressing those needs, and business strategies to provide support to activities designed to address those needs.
  • In conjunction with the Vision 2027 Director, build initial hypotheses for impact areas PHS will address through its work and the Vision 2027 Strategic Plan.
  • Establish formal approaches for creating, testing, measuring, and adapting new pilots and programs, and for monitoring their performance against impact areas.
  • For top priority pilots, build detailed work plans, impact goals, and budgets, and seek and understand viable business and financial models at the program and organizational level.
  • Work closely with existing staff to analyze data as a tool to help support strategy development and assess the performance of pilot projects; identify methods and metrics against which PHS will measure success of existing and new programs in the Vision 2027 Strategic Plan.
  • Evaluate and build organizational tools and systems to enable PHS to develop multi-year work plans to deliver against target impact areas and understand business model viability.

 

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • Master’s Degree in related fields required (e.g., non-profit or public management, business, urban planning, program monitoring and evaluation)
  • 3 years of strategy and change management experience required
  • 5 years of project management, performance and evaluation, and other qualitative and quantitative analysis experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated ability to influence others to understand and implement change
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills

Show Content Manager

The Show Content Manager will be responsible for developing content and exhibitor relations for the Philadelphia Flower Show.  Will research, recommend, and select horticultural, floricultural, landscape design, floral design and other exciting organizations to enhance the Show experience and exceed expectations of our visitors. Help the Flower Show to keep horticulture and design as the main attractions and at the highest quality possible.  Be the liaison, provide a consistent resource, and be the go-to person for all Flower Show exhibits including major exhibitors, partners and sponsors.

Essential Functions:

  • Works with Chief of Shows and Events to design and create PHS Shows, Events and Exhibits.
  • Responsible for developing content and exhibitor relations for the Philadelphia Flower Show.
  • Research, develop, and build relationships with horticulture, floriculture, landscape design and floral design industries with the goal of including them as exhibitors and/or partners of the Flower Show and PHS.
  • Communicates and negotiates exhibitors’ expectations and requirements. Prepare and make sure of successful execution of contracts.
  • Develops relationships with major exhibitors and assists with creative input when needed.
  • Recruitment, development, and retention of exhibitors. Works closely with Chief of Shows and Events on this process.
  • Be the liaison for all major exhibitors and sponsored exhibits. Provides a consistent resource and is the go-to person throughout the year and on the Show floor during setup, run of Show and tear down.
  • Research and develop unique and innovative experiences for PHS Shows and Events.  Work with Chief of Shows and Events on recommendations to determine experiences that will be included in the Flower Show.
  • May require travel nationally as well as internationally for research, development and relationship building.
  • Working closely with the PHS Business Development team, provide input and work with sponsors to develop and coordinate exhibits that meet the sponsors’ marketing goals.
  • Connect and match our network of designers to our sponsors and partners for successful execution of exhibits.
  • Manage the process and execution of sponsor exhibits.
  • Develops budget for Show subsidies. Develops budgets and obtains estimates for exhibits and event experiences.
  • Develop production and construction timelines for exhibits and event experiences.
  • Develops relationships and works with Show volunteers who assist in production of Show.
  • Works closely and communicates regularly with PHS event programming, operations and volunteer teams.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

  • College degree in horticulture or related field or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience and knowledge of horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, floral design, and related fields/industries.
  • Deep knowledge of the horticulture industry.
  • Ability to communicate well both written and orally.
  • Ability to speak and present in public.
  • Ability to work with individuals and groups with diverse experience, personalities, and professional achievement.
  • Ability to communicate well with staff, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, contractors, and others involved in the design and production of PHS Shows and Events.

Physical Demands:

  • Full time, exempt—40 hours per week
  • Work days with longer hours, required during Flower Show dates
  • Occasional evenings and weekends will be required

  • Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 6 hours per day.  Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day.  This may include traveling to and from meetings and air travel. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task.

Who We Are:

The Delaware River Waterfront Corporation is the nonprofit leading the development and programming of the six-mile Central Delaware River Waterfront, with parks like Spruce Street Harbor Park to the Race Street Pier and the forthcoming Penn’s Landing Cap. We are an innovative organization redefining how cities use public space both in Philadelphia and nationally. As we grow, we’re adding a new Planner/Project Manager to our Planning and Development team. This individual will be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of capital projects as they move from planning and design through construction. Position Description:

The Planner/Project Manager will work to implement the goals of the Master Plan for the Central Delaware by managing the planning, design, construction, and evaluation of new public parks, trails, and streetscape improvements within the waterfront district.

 

Responsibilities

  • Advance capital projects through planning, design, and construction
    • Manage day-to-day coordination with consultants and contractors
    • Assist with selection of consultants and contractors, including drafting RFPs and assembling bid materials
    • Coordinate permitting and approvals, acting as liaison with key regulatory agencies and stakeholders
    • Ensure projects remain within budget and on schedule
  • Manage public outreach process for capital projects and respond to community questions and concerns during all stages of project development (in coordination with Communications department)
  • Draft grant applications and manage grant report writing and administration related to capital projects
  • Assist with the management of long-term planning efforts, including those related to waterfront transit and transportation planning, historic preservation, and climate change adaptation
  • Compile and analyze data related to capital project development and post-construction use, develop metrics for evaluation, and suggest adaptations or revisions to plans and processes based on results
  • Prepare presentation materials for internal and external audiences
  • Produce graphic materials (maps, flyers, etc.) related to projects

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Design, City Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Civil Engineering, Public Administration or related field; and at least three years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Understanding of and interest in waterfront and urbanism issues, such as public space design and activation, economic and real estate development, zoning, and transportation planning
  • Excellent writing, research and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with overlapping schedules and deadlines
  • Ability to work well independently, taking ownership of projects and ensuring their successful completion, while also communicating effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and other planning and design related software.
