SUMMARY:  This position requires the individual to be proficient in the terminology and application of the technical and political processes concerned with the use of land, public welfare, and the design of the natural and built environment in general.  The applicant should also possess specific knowledge/experience with the various aspects of environmental planning (stormwater, sewage and water facilities, sustainability, etc.).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES shall include the following:

  • Review  Planning Modules for land development
  • Work cooperatively with other staff, general public, and local officials
  • Manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and organize information

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES in addition to all of the above shall include some combination of the following dependent upon stated position:

  • Assist in implementing the requirements of the county MS4 permit
  • Author and produce planning documents such as, but not limited to, watershed studies, technical memos, and assessment reports
  • Have technical knowledge in land use, open space, environmental, demographics, landscape design, zoning, planning law, and related subjects
  • Program management such as, but not limited to, farmland preservation, open space, or watershed-based planning
  • Practical knowledge of sewage, water and stormwater facilities
  • Grant writing

Community Development Technician

Job Description

Tredyffrin Township seeks a Community Development Technician, a professional position involving GIS, grant writing, other related analytical and administrative work, including support of other departments. Supports the Assistant Township Manager and other departments. Serves as staff liaison with the Historical Commission by attending public meetings and preparing agendas and meeting minutes. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficient in GIS software, word processing, spreadsheet and data base programs.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or other related fields, with one (1) year related experience preferred. Experience/additional education may be considered. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in and ability to quickly learn database and computer programs.

Fellowship – Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management

The Philadelphia Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is seeking highly-motivated graduate or undergraduate students interested in careers in emergency management, public affairs, education, public health, or journalism for summer fellowships.

The OEM Fellowship Program         

The OEM Fellowship Program offers students a unique opportunity to work on a variety of issues and take responsibility for important projects. Fellows will have the opportunity to specialize in areas of particular interest and gain exposure to all aspects of OEM planning and operations. Some of the projects focus on infrastructure, human services, logistics, video production, teaching workshops, and other planning initiatives.

Requirements

Summer Fellows must:

  • Commit at least 24 hours weekly;

Fellowship Program Details 

This opportunity is ideal for highly-motivated graduate or undergraduate students interested in careers in emergency management, homeland security, journalism, education, public health, and human services.

Typical duties will include:

  • Independent and team-based research
  • Participation in interagency meetings
  • Policy development

Fellows may also:

  • Support activations of the City’s emergency operations center;
  • Observe emergency field response activities as opportunities arise; and
  • Participate in off-site visits.

Timeframe

The program starts in June and ends in August. Specific start and end dates are negotiable.

Job Description

  • The Office of Transportation Operations Management at DVRPC focuses on Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSM&O) planning efforts to improve the operational efficiency of the region’s transportation system, providing reliability, mobility, and safety for people and goods. TSM&O strategies focus on lower cost operational and multimodal approaches that are coordinated between technologies and agencies to make better use of existing transportation facilities. This unit facilitates regional coordination and collaboration with other transportation agencies and emergency responders from throughout the Delaware Valley.
  • This transportation engineering and planning position will be responsible for helping to implement the methodology, and results of TSM&O plans; assisting in the development of long-range plans; advancing traffic incident management, emergency management, and traffic operations programs; identifying and tracking trends and assisting in performance measure initiatives; and planning for the deployment of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the 9-county greater Philadelphia region.
  • The position requires collaboration with public agencies, private sector organizations, and decision-makers on project teams. TDM Manager

GVF is looking for a highly motivated professional to support the expanding needs of GVF and its foundation, Communities in Motion. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with ability to understand priorities and fulfill project assignments from start to finish with minimal oversight. This individual will be able to work independently and within a team environment, plus be able to meet specific deadlines.

This is a full-time position is for a TDM Manager and will be approximately 40 hours per week. GVF is a small organization with six professionals on staff. Therefore, it is imperative the applicant have an “all-hands-on-deck” personality, a good sense of humor, and the willingness to do whatever needs to be done to make the organization successful.

Transportation Planner (Planner II)

Transportation Planner Sought

The Planning Commission seeks a Transportation Planner to assist in advancing transportation projects for the county. The position, classified as a Planner II, provides professional consulting services to local municipalities, manages the transportation improvements inventory, and County representation in regional planning forums.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate must demonstrate a competency level in project planning and implementation. Demonstrated knowledge shall include an understanding of the Transportation Improvement Plan, county/state/federal grants, and a working knowledge of regional planning partners, including the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission, PennDOT, SEPTA, and TMAs.

Requirements: The candidate must possess excellent verbal, writing, and computer skills, including Microsoft Office and ESRI ArcGIS products. Graphic training and ability using Adobe Suite and/or Sketchup is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate experience in preparing concept improvement plans, summarizing quantitative data, delivering presentations, and authoring technical reports.

Minimum Requirements: a Master’s Degree in Planning, Geography, Landscape Architecture or a related field, or a Bachelor’s Degree with three years of job experience.
