1) Research Assistant – Cross County Connection Transportation Management Association – Marlton, NJ

Cross County Connection Transportation Management Association is seeking a full-time Research Assistant to provide support to Technical Staff on planning-related projects.  This is a new entry level position that requires someone with diverse skills who enjoys working on multiple projects and interacting with people in-person and on the telephone.

Job Requirements

 

The Research Assistant will provide research and data collection support to technical staff and report directly to the Program Director.  The successful candidate will assist with a variety of projects; some of which are ongoing and some short term.  Cross County Connection’s clients include individuals, municipal and county governments, state agencies and employers. Technical projects encompass urban, suburban and rural areas.

 

 

 

The primary responsibility of the Research Assistant is to provide support to technical staff working on transportation planning and TDM projects by assisting with research and outreach efforts to obtain the necessary data and produce documents as needed.  Field work and attendance at meetings will be required.  Job responsibilities will vary depending upon annual work programs, and currently include the following projects, and other duties as assigned.

 

 

 

Safe Routes to School Program

 

•            Assist SRTS Coordinator with implementation of SRTS program which provides education assistance and guidance to schools trying to increase the number of students biking/walking to school.

 

•            Responsibilities include contacting schools and school boards to inform them of the SRTS program and encourage their participation.

 

•            Meet with interested schools and others to provide information about the SRTS Program and the assistance provided by Cross County Connection.

 

•            Attend training sessions and other meetings, as needed.

 

•            Coordinate and run biking and walking events with the SRTS Coordinator, schools and others.  These events are targeted to elementary-aged school children and may include walking school buses, bike rodeos, community events and other activities, as needed.

 

•            Write articles for SRTS newsletter.

 

 

 

Commuter Services

 

•            Provide Customer Service to the general public by responding to telephone and e-mail requests for information regarding ridesharing (carpooling, vanpooling, public transit).

 

•            Research appropriate transit services available to make trip requested by customer

 

•            Provide carpool/vanpool matching support.  Utilizing ridesharing software, find carpool/vanpool partners for customers.

 

•            Attend transportation-related events at worksites and community/public locations.

 

•            Attend ridesharing training and meetings as needed.

 

•            Assist staff with revisions to Cross County Connection’s website (www.driveless.com) by reviewing and editing website pages.

 

•            Write articles for Commuter Newsletter

 

Other Transportation-Related Projects

 

•            Transit Planning–Assist Technical Staff with transit planning projects, including surveying passengers on-board community shuttle services, recording and analyzing ridership data, and researching employers located along shuttle routes.

 

•            Bike/Pedestrian Planning–Assist Technical Staff with research, as needed.  Current projects include County Bike Master Plan and bikeway planning for municipalities.

 

•            Sustainability Planning–Assist Technical Staff with research, as needed.  Research requirements of Sustainable Jersey Program for municipal certification.  Provide technical assistance and resources to municipalities.

 

Qualifications

 

•            Bachelor’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field.

 

•            One year of relevant work experience or equivalent internships.

 

•            Strong writing and public speaking skills.

 

•            Strong customer service skills.

 

•            Proficient with databases and spreadsheets.

 

•            Web editing/HTML/Dreamweaver skills, a plus.

2) Sustainability Coordinator – People’s Emergency Center CDC – Philadelphia

 

Local Initiatives Support Corporation and People’s Emergency Center CDC (PECCDC) are seeking a full-time AmeriCorps member to serve as Sustainability Coordinator. Member activities will be focused on assisting PECCDC implement the recently completed Make Your Mark! Lower Lancaster Revitalization Plan and to fully participate as part of the LISC AmeriCorps team.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

· Develop and implement program for training and organizing residents around tree stewardship and greening

 

· Collect information about farm share/CSA programs, local farmer’s markets, and urban farms operating in and around the community

 

· Meet with local CSA programs, farm shares, and produce markets to discuss using the Philly Food Bucks program

 

· Meet with local urban farming groups to determine whether there are opportunities for expanding their initiatives

 

· Develop content and disseminate information about recycling, rain barrels, and composting initiatives

 

· Implement neighborhood-based exercise program

 

· Assist with PEC’s food cupboard

 

· If opportunities exist, work with appropriate stakeholders to implement expansion

Next City’s infrastructure blogger will lead the conversation on evolving infrastructure demands, technologies and systems. 5) Project Assistant (AmeriCorps) – Community Design Collaborative – Philadelphia

 

Local Initiatives Support Corporation and the Community Design Collaborative are seeking a full-time AmeriCorps member to serve as Project Assistant. The Project Assistant will support civic engagement that fosters productive partnerships between architects and community-based nonprofits. Specifically, the Project Assistant will recruit, manage and train volunteers to imagine and implement the Quality of Life elements of neighborhood plans.

 

 

 

The member selected to serve in this capacity will work with Collaborative staff to:

7) Intern – The Northeast Corridor Commission – Philadelphia

 

Congress created the Northeast Corridor Infrastructure and Operations Advisory Commission (NEC Commission) in recognition of the inherent challenges of coordinating, financing, and implementing major improvements that cross multiple jurisdictions. The Commission’s goals are to lead the creation and implementation of a visionary, long-term, regional investment strategy for the Northeast Corridor; advance near-term projects; coordinate regional planning and communication; and educate stakeholders and the public about the Northeast Corridor’s investment needs and its role in the future economic growth and development of the region.

 

The Commission is comprised of representatives from each of the NEC states, Amtrak, and the U.S. DOT, with non-voting representatives from freight railroads and states with connecting corridors. The Commission maintains a full-time staff in Washington, DC. The Commission is accepting intern applications from current graduate students in the Washington, DC and Philadelphia metropolitan areas. This paid internship includes term- time work in fall 2013, with the possibility of extending into spring and summer 2014.

 

Summary of Duties

 

The Commission seeks a graduate student to support all aspects of the Commission’s work. Working closely with a small team of highly motivated transportation professionals, the intern will have the opportunity to shape project work in coordination with Commission staff. The intern will be responsible for policy research, transportation planning and analysis, report preparation, website content development, assistance with day-to-day office management and administration, and other tasks as assigned. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to undertake unfamiliar initiatives and strong enthusiasm for the Commission’s work.

 

Qualifications

 

Candidates should be pursuing a masters degree in public policy, urban and regional planning, transportation, business, or a related field. Candidates should have:

 

• Experience collecting, evaluating, and interpreting quantitative data;

 

• Excellent skills in written, verbal, and graphic communication of quantitative and qualitative information, including the ability to clearly express technical concepts to wide audiences;

 

• Strong computer skills in data analysis, word processing, and graphic design – experience with the Adobe Creative Suite, data visualizations, and/or geographic information systems (GIS) is preferred; and

 

• An ability to build relationships with all levels of an organization, work in a fast-paced office environment with tight deadlines, and stay organized and detail-oriented while working on a wide range of tasks.
