The Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Planning Association is looking for Great Places in two categories: Great Public Spaces and Great Greenways/Trails. Great Places are unique, memorable places that display community planning best practices, have an exemplary character, and a sustainable vision for tomorrow.

We want to hear your suggestions for a Great Public Space or Great Greenway/Trail designation. Please complete the online submission form by Thursday, June 9, 2022. Nominations will be considered by the Great Places in Pennsylvania Judges Committee with notification to applicants in the summer.

APAPASE is collaborating with a team of ten academic institutions led by Rutgers University to improve climate risk management in the New York City – New Jersey- Philadelphia region.  Supported by the National Science Foundation, the Megalopolitan Coastal Transformation Hub (MACH) includes climate and sea level scientists, civil engineers, urban planners, economists, emergency management specialists, environmental anthropologists, decision analysis experts, social scientists, and humanists, among others. 

As part this effort, the Rutgers team is conducting an online survey of members of nonprofit organizations representing the following sectors: municipal finance, community planning, flood plain management, public health, and post-disaster relief organizations.  We believe that participation in this survey is an important opportunity for our members to contribute to coastal climate resilience efforts and greater public understanding of climate change adaptation strategies in our region.  We urge all of our members to participate in the online survey.

The survey will take approximately 15 minutes and it is anonymous. The survey asks questions related to climate-change related impacts, climate change mitigation and resilience actions, and information sources.

To help inform the program’s prospective policies, investment plan, and ongoing engagement strategies, Pennsylvania DEP’s consultant, Delta Institute, has developed a Local Government Online Survey for staff serving in municipal, county, and township government, to gather input on RGGI’s anticipated benefits and impacts, and to hear regional priorities around how the program’s revenues should be invested.

If you know a special public space, greenway/trail, or street that displays a wealth of best practices in community planning and serves as a model for other communities, NOMINATE IT! The deadline for Nominations is May 7, 2021.

For inspiration, you are encouraged to explore the archive of previously designated and treasured Great Places in PA on the Chapter website. Past winners have used their Great Places recognition for grant applications, economic development efforts, and public relations outreach.
