GeoPhilly, Philadelphia’s meetup group for map enthusiasts, is pleased to present After Hours for Planners with Archival Planning Films.  This free event is held on the last day of the America Planning Association, Pennsylvania Chapter Annual Conference and features archival films from the 1950s-1960s about city planning and Philadelphia.  A meet and greet with local urban planners and GeoPhilly members will follow the film screening at The Institute Bar.

These archival films are a time capsule of mid-century Philadelphia life and historical planning practices.  The films feature a variety of planning recommendations which are at times archaic and at others times innovative and progressive. We hope you will find these films as charming, entertaining and fun as we do!
To travel from the conference, take the Market/Frankford line westbound from 2nd and Market to 11th and Market.  You can either walk north on 12th Street to the venue located at Spring Garden and 12th or you can take the 23 bus north from 11th and Market to 11th and Spring Garden and walk to 12th street.

Pop up parks are all the rage in Philadelphia these days. Come hear from three planners about parklets, the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) Pop Up Garden, and the Delaware Waterfront Corporation’s Spruce Street Harbor Park. Tour begins at 11:00 AM at the parklet in front of QuickFixx (1511 South St, Philadelphia, PA 19146) and ends at 1:00 PM at Spruce Street Harbor Park. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and bring cash if you want to buy a beverage/lunch at one of the stops along the way.

Join Young Involved Philadelphia for a tour of the South Street West Commercial Corridor on Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 1–3pm.

Designed for aspiring entrepreneurs, foodies, and culture seekers, our 3-part series exploring commercial corridors at various stages of their development. These tours will include stops along the corridor where business owners — well-established or just beginning — will share their personal stories of why they chose their current location, and how they set up shop.
 

For our second tour, we will be working with the South of South Neighbors Association to feature businesses in the neighborhood. Hunt from 1 PM – 4 PM; Scoring and Post-Hunt Happy Hour from 4 – 6 pm
$7 for members of APAPA or YPT; $10 for non-members

Grab your SEPTA pass, lace up your shoes, and join us for our first ever Photo Scavenger Hunt!

Meet us in the City Hall Courtyard at 1pm to pick up your clues and begin the hunt. You’ll have until4pm to travel to as many locations on the list as you can and take a photo with your team. Teams are capped at 4 members. No team? Don’t worry–register as an individual and we’ll set you up with a team at the beginning of the event.

Some clues will be in Center City and others will be far away–but everything is reachable via SEPTA! And, of course, your team will earn more points for the locations that are farther away and more difficult to reach.

Along the way, your team should email your photos to our judges – so don’t forget, each team will need at least one smartphone! All photos will have to be submitted by the end of the hunt at 4pm.

After the hunt is over, join us for an afterparty at Strangelove’s (216 S 11th St) to hear the results! Your registration includes your first drink, so be sure to join us!
