Development Associate

Established in 1980, Mt. Airy USA is a nationally-recognized nonprofit organization in Northwest Philadelphia that preserves, empowers and advances the vitality and diversity of Mt. Airy by stimulating community-centered neighborhood development. Mt. Airy USA provides housing counseling and financial literacy services, advances real estate development, promotes small businesses and a vibrant commercial corridor and facilitates investment in neighborhood public schools.

The Development Associate will help oversee over $1M in partnership dollars and help develop new approaches for raising funds on behalf of Mt. Airy USA.

Development:

  • Assist in researching and writing foundation and corporate grant proposals, as well as reports.
  • Assist with redesigning business giving programs and sponsorship opportunities to cultivate and sustain meaningful partnerships; help plan and develop a growing calendar of special events for donors and partners.
  • Develop and maintain CRM database system; create, generate, and distribute reports as needed.
  • Conduct prospect research.
  • Process and acknowledge gifts.
  • Provide event planning support.
  • Assist in creating and distributing year-end appeals and individual giving campaigns.
  • Assist with production of annual reports.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution with 1-3 years of experience in a nonprofit development position; a combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent oral and written communications abilities, as well as strong interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people.
  • Experience with CRM database management and the ability to plan and execute complicated events.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle a variety of tasks and manage deadlines.
  • Position may require some evening and weekend hours.

Communications Associate

The Communications Associate will play an important role in promoting Mt. Airy USA’s multi-faceted community programs and will support marketing initiatives that promote the neighborhood of Mt. Airy as a great place to live, dine, shop, and play.

Social Media and Digital Content Management

  • Assist with coordination of organizational communications schedule.
  • Curate content for blogs and social media and assist in reaching engagements goals across all distribution platforms.
  • Perform website maintenance and maintain online community calendar.
  • Design compelling content for e-newsletters.
  • Manage and build digital media library including photography, videos, and audio files.

Media Relations

  • Assist with drafting press releases.
  • Assist with tracking and sharing media coverage.
  • Assist with coordination of press events.

Writing, Editing, and Print Production

  • Assist with writing for organizational publications such as brochures, annual reports, and other major print and digital publications.
  • Design promotional materials, both print and electronic.
  • Assist with copyediting, fact-checking, and proofreading content across channels to ensure the highest level of quality, accuracy, and consistency in grammar, spelling, punctuation, style, and tone.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • 2-3 years communications experience preferred.
  • Strong social media experience.
  • Strong writing and editing abilities, as well as interpersonal skills; experience writing for a breadth of audiences.
  • Experience with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop preferred.
  • Experience with content management systems, publishing platforms, content curation, video editing software, and digital asset management.
  • High level of organization and attention to detail; ability to prioritize content.
  • Results-oriented with a strong sense of urgency for moving projects to completion and success.
  • Ability and agility to work under pressure, to adapt easily to changing situations and priorities, and to meet multiple deadlines and goals simultaneously.
  • Familiarity with Mt. Airy a plus.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible for overall supervision and quality of those projects which are assigned to their team.
  2. Assures that the project conforms to the contractual agreement the firm has made to the client.
  3. Assures that the project is completed within the allocated period of time and within the budget that has been assigned.
  4. Controls project plan by approving design, specifications, plans, and schedules changes.
  5. Responsible for client satisfaction.
  6. Assist the Director of Operations and Managing Principals in the implementation of the marketing plan and business development goals established for the office.
  7. Serves as a technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes for an assigned area of responsibility.
  8. Keeps abreast of new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization for the purposes of recommending changes in emphasis of programs or new programs warranted by such developments.
  9. Provide team leadership. Plans, organizes, and supervises the work of a staff of engineers and technicians.
  10. Responsible for finding work for team members in order for team to meet utilization goals.
  11. Evaluates progress of the staff and results obtained and recommend changes to achieve overall objectives.
  12. Maintains project staff job results by planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
