Project Analyst

TRA provides management and technical consulting services to the transportation industry, especially in public transit operations, safety, security, and maintenance. TRA’s work includes safety program development, federal and state regulatory compliance assessments, and transit agency systems analyses. TRA provides its clients with detailed written findings and recommendations based on detailed reports, data, and both quantitative and qualitative analyses.

 

Project Analyst Position Description

Project Analyst is TRA’s base-level consulting position. The Project Analyst will be based in TRA’s Philadelphia office, and will work with TRA’s staff there, and with personnel in Atlanta, New York, Florida, and Washington, DC. The Project Analyst will also travel to support TRA projects throughout the United States. The Project Analyst supports TRA’s consulting staff and their highly varied, technical field work. Responsibilities will include participating in client interviews, field assessments and observations, and documentation of business processes; writing and editing substantial reports and proposals, based on a wide variety of sources and inputs; interpreting and editing client documentation and procedures; providing data, information, and analyses for use by TRA project managers; and developing spreadsheets, presentations, and databases. The position answers primarily to TRA personnel, but also will interface with TRA clients in both public and private sectors. This Analyst will join a staff of seven other Analysts who are involved in multiple projects, with multiple groups of coworkers, at any given time. The Project Analyst often also works independently and will be expected to continuously learn about all aspects of public transportation operations, maintenance, and management.

 

Project Analyst Qualifications

A master’s degree is required. A candidate with a bachelor’s degree will be considered only with significant, applicable industry experience. Candidates with experience in transportation, engineering, planning, or similar disciplines are often successful, however applicants with similar or parallel backgrounds will be considered. Knowledge of or interest in public transportation operations, maintenance, or safety is a plus, but not required. Familiarity with Safety Management Systems (SMS) in any industry is beneficial, as is knowledge of Federal Transit Administration or US Department of Transportation requirements.

 

Project Analyst candidates must be detail-oriented, organized, and flexible. Candidates must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong ability for critical thinking, and an excellent capacity to analyze, understand, and incorporate technical information. Candidates must also be able to think creatively about data and how to present it as useful and engaging information, both for external and internal use. Candidates must be able work independently and interface regularly with a wide range of clients. Successful Project Analysts must be outgoing, engaging, and social, and must actively look for ways they can help the TRA team. A TRA Project Analyst must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Database and MS Project experience is a plus.

 

The Project Analyst position is based in Philadelphia, but frequent (often 40 to 60%) short-term travel is required, as dictated by current projects. Position is salaried, and is based on an approximately 50-hour work week. Schedule and total hours will vary depending on current assignments. Director of Urban Design

The Director of Urban Design leads PHS’s thinking and action in using horticulture to transform the region’s public realm.  To accomplish this, the Director envisions, develops, and delivers innovative urban horticulture projects and leads the in-house Urban Design Team.  Key day-to-day responsibilities for this position include creating project proposals and budgets, working with the Development team to raise funds for new projects, leading the Urban Design Team to deliver projects for internal and external clients, leading the work of the Design and Horticulture Advisory Committee, and managing relationships with stakeholders and partners involved in PHS’s public realm work.  In all this work, the Director collaborates actively with the Chief of Programs, the President, and colleagues across the organization while sustaining excellence in conception, design, and delivery of projects.

Essential Functions

  • Define a clear, broadly understood strategy for PHS’s work to transform the region’s public realm through horticulture in partnership with the President, Chief of Programs, the Design and Horticulture Committee, the Board of Directors, and other partners and advisors.  This will include working with these stakeholders to shape the strategy, publicly presenting and advocating for the strategy, maintaining alignment with stakeholders over time, cultivating strong and supporting relationships with colleagues, partners, city agencies, contractors, and communities, and supporting the Urban Design team to successfully engage in these partnerships.
  • Create an ongoing pipeline of projects that bring this strategy to life and maintain high levels of utilization for the Urban Design Team.  This will include working with internal and external partners to shape, fund, design, and implement these projects.  This will include creating proposals for grant-funded and fee-for-service projects, working with external clients and PHS development staff to secure funds for projects, maintaining an active pipeline of projects, monitoring and evaluating grants and contracts, and regularly communicating with support, funders, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Manage the delivery of landscape design and urban projects for internal and external clients, including fee for service projects and internally funded projects.  This will include setting and overseeing landscape architecture design and project management policies, standards, maintaining quality control, overseeing all aspects of project developing including creating scopes of services, site analysis, designs, cost estimates, drawings and specifications, reviewing bid document reviews, managing construction, and reviewing, editing, approving plan reports and designs for aesthetics, good horticulture and design quality, and assuring contracts are fulfilled within cost and timeframe budgets, quality standards and specifications.
  • Lead and manage the Urban Design Department as a thriving part of PHS.  This will include managing the finances of the department including the development and monitoring of project plans and budgets, hiring, managing, and developing a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that team members set and achieve professional development goals, monitoring performance of all team members and taking disciplinary action as needed, and serving as a leader in PHS’s programs management team to promote and ensure successful implementation of the various initiatives of the department.

Education, Experience and Skills Required

  • Masters degree in a Design or Urbanism related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant, professional experience in bringing to life transformational projects in urban settings. Experience with urban horticulture or landscape design project a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully direct and manage a multidisciplinary team and work collaboratively across diverse organizations and disciplines, both internally and externally.
  • Excellent knowledge of landscape design, urban design, horticulture, and sustainability practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, on budget, while adhering to deadlines.
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the Philadelphia region a plus.
  • Strong graphic skills and ability to produce design packages.
  • Proficient with (GIS) Geographical Informational Systems a plus

Qualifications

To be considered for this position, the ideal applicant will possess 2-4 years experience in multi-media communications, building audiences, growing a brand, and executing successful community outreach projects.  Must be adept at using multiple social medial platforms, preferably in an outreach capacity for media, civic, or nonprofit organization.  Familiarity with a news operation desired.  Strong knowledge of PlanPhilly’s core subject areas (design, development, public policy, neighborhoods, community development, urban planning, infrastructure, etc..) and knowledge of of various social media platforms and online content management systems is essential.  To be successful, the candidate should possess a Bachelor’s  degree in a related major, be able to work well under deadline pressure, communicate effectively,collaborate successfully, but be able to work as well individually, and also to be able to accept and provide constructive criticism well. A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required as local travel is required on a frequent basis.
