May 13: GALIP Philadelphia Kickoff

APAPASE and GALIP logos direct from pub

Gays and Lesbians in Planning (GALIP) Philadelphia is hosting our kickoff event at the Westbury Bar and Restaurant on the Northeast corner of Spruce and 13th on Tuesday, May 13 at 5:30 pm.  This first meeting will give us a chance to meet face to face to discuss what we want to get out of the group and brainstorm future events.  Can’t make it?  You can sign up at http://bit.ly/GALIPPHL to join the group list and find out more on upcoming events.

GALIP Philadelphia is a group interested in hosting Gays and Lesbians in Planning (GALIP) Division events in the Philadelphia region. Not every interested planner is able to make the national conference and so the GALIP Division would like to become involved on a local level. To that end, several local groups have been created in New York, Washington DC, and Los Angeles. These groups have focused on networking, social, and educational events.

The American Planning Association, Pennsylvania Chapter, Southeast Sections (APAPASE) has partnered with the GALIP division to host an event last July.  This group is formed to see if there is interest in hosting more regular and social events in association with the division.  Though APAPASE has worked with GALIP, this regional group is open to anyone in the Philadelphia region, including New Jersey and Delaware.

Though GALIP’s acronym only highlights Gays and Lesbians it is important to note that GALIP membership and topics of interest are inclusive to all communities, all gender representations, and all sexual identities. Similarly, while the GALIP acronym focuses on professional planners, GALIP Philadelphia is open to all interested in planning topics including allied professions such as architecture, landscape architecture, engineering, urban design, real estate development, and anyone interested in the built environment.

Please share this invite with anyone you think would be interested in joining the group. Anyone who is interested can request to join the group at http://bit.ly/GALIPPHL. This link is also helpful if you wish to join this group with a different email.
