Jarrett Walker, author of the book Human Transit, will be giving his lecture Abundant Access: Public Transit as an Instrument of Freedom on the evening of December 5th from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Meyerson Hall, B1 (210 S 34th St, Philadelphia, PA 19104) on the University of Pennsylvania’s campus in University City. The lecture will deal with various aspects of bus network planning. Tickets to the lecture are free but registration is required. The Bicycle Coalition’s strategic planning community meeting is Thursday, September 22, at Circle of Hope. We want you to join us for the discussion to make bicycling a safer and more fun way to get around for anyone in the Greater Philadelphia region. We are currently—and will be—crafting our three-year strategic plan for 2017-2019, and rely on members and partners to help drive our vision for impact. At our community meeting, you will have a direct impact on our work over the next three years, and beyond.

For the 9th year in a row, Philadelphia will celebrate PARK(ing) Day. This year, PARK(ing) Day falls on Friday, September 16, 2016. PARK(ing) Day is a worldwide annual event that started in San Francisco in 2005, when people transformed metered parking spaces into temporary public parks. The event raises awareness about the need for more pedestrian-friendly spaces in urban areas—in small 170 square foot spaces all across the world. A variety of non-profit institutions, community development organizations, academic institutions, and private companies—including many planning agencies and companies—participate in setting up these colorful, temporary parks. As the U.S. Supreme Court concludes its session, APA convenes planning attorneys to discuss the most important decisions of the year. In addition to the Supreme Court cases, the panel reviews district and state court rulings. Find out whether APA filed amicus briefs and why. DVRPC is seeking proposals from qualified consultants to organize and execute a one-day, interactive workshop that will provide attendees with a better understanding of how to integrate health into their communities’ planning processes.
The bid will form the basis of a contract between DVRPC and the awarded vendor to complete all work for Incorporating Health and Comprehensive Planning Interactive Workshop.
