Volunteering with Urban Plan is a great way to interact with students, share your subject matter expertise, and connect with fellow ULI members. More ULI members volunteer through UrbanPlan than any other ULI program. Volunteers make a huge impact in the classroom and have the flexibility to work around demands on their schedule.

Volunteer Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Professionals in land use or commercial real estate with at least five years’ industry experience are invited to volunteer with UrbanPlan.
  • Current ULI membership or otherwise will be expected to join ULI prior to the program launch.
  • Flexible schedule that allows in classroom or workshop participation in addition to a one-day training.
  • The patience to question through the Socratic method rather than advise or coach.
  • Ability to assume and maintain the “city council member” role and not to lapse into academic advisor/design charrette jury behavior.

This is a full day, in-person training session. Registration includes UrbanPlan volunteer materials, light breakfast, lunch, and happy hour reception. After registration is complete, ULI staff will follow up with a confirmation email and volunteer application.

Continuing Education Units: This program qualifies six (6) AICP credits.
