Zoning Officer

Plymouth Township, a Home Rule Municipality located in Montgomery County, PA, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Zoning Officer.  The Zoning Officer is responsible for the day-to-day administration and enforcement of the Township’s Zoning Ordinance and related land use regulations. This position is the primary Zoning Officer, responsible for issuing zoning permits, conducting zoning reviews, enforcing compliance, and maintaining records.

The Zoning Officer works under the general supervision of the Planning and Zoning Director and provides technical support to the Director in preparing Planning Agency reports and recommendations.

Applicants are required to possess the following:

• Thorough knowledge of zoning, and land development
• Thorough and applied knowledge of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code (MPC), Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code (UCC), and applicable state and federal regulations.
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Ability to interpret ordinances, plans, technical reports, and legal documents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present effectively before boards, commissions, and the public.
• Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and manage competing priorities in a politically sensitive environment.
• Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in municipal zoning, planning, code enforcement, or a related field required.
• A Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.  Experience working with zoning hearing boards and the public strongly preferred.

Pennsylvania Zoning Officer certification required or must be obtained within a specified period after appointment.

Attendance at evening meetings is required.  Occasional field visits and site inspections may be necessary.
