Planners can earn both their Ethics and Law AICP CM at Design on the Delaware conference October 29 – November 1 in Philadelphia.
The conference, in its 11th year, offers 23 AICP CM accredited programs in addition to the ethics and law courses. Programs cover a range of planning topics including form based zoning, campus planning, Skyplane regulations, SITES rating system, and numerous programs focused on urban and suburban projects. Planners can earn up to 25 AICP CM at the conference.
APA members are entitled to the discounted member registration. Registration for October 29 & 30 is just $265. October 31 and November 1 programs are individually priced ranging from $25 to $50. Design on the Delaware is a collaborative conference examining the issues and opportunities of the built environment. Collaborating organizations include the American Planning Association Pennsylvania Chapter, American Society of Landscape Architects Pennsylvania Delaware Chapter, American Institute of Architects Philadelphia Chapter, Urban Land Institute Philadelphia Chapter and 20 design and building professional associations. In its eleventh year, the conference offers 37 continuing education programs, 11 tours, 2 general sessions, trade show and social events for planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, contractors and other design/building professionals.

Ethics for Planning & Design Professionals – 1.5 AICP CM Ethics
An up-to-date ethics training for planning and design professionals to achieve AICP Certification Maintenance credits, including public and private viewpoints, a review of the AICP code of conduct and ethical dilemma scenarios for discussion. Presented by the American Planning Association Pennsylvania Chapter.
Creating Form-Based Zoning – 1.5 AICP CM Law
With the help of the Montgomery County Planning Commission, the Borough of Narberth crafted a new system of regulating building form and uses based largely on the New Urbanism’s Smart Code. This session will deconstruct the legislation and investigate the process that formed it for elected officials and practicing planners and architects curious about implementing this technique in their own communities.
City Building with Nature in Mind presented by Ken Greenberg, former Director of Urban Design and Architecture for the City of Toronto – 1 AICP CM
Major world cities are in the throes of a profound transition. As one critical component of that transformation and perhaps more rapidly than we realize, we are witnessing the force majeure dissolution of the false dichotomy, both professional and conceptual, that divided the city from the natural world. Like many powerful and timely impulses, this reconciliation has had many sources: scientific, cultural and aesthetic. It is a simultaneous realization motivated by a sense of crisis as the scientific community calls attention to the appalling degradation, dangerous consequences and undeniable fragility of human life on the planet. Much of this shift can be witnessed in a return to the great water bodies that were the places of origin for our cities.

Tour participants visit a range of GSI installations emphasizing two contrasting environments and project scales: large scale installations in unconstrained public park settings and smaller scale installations within constrained private commercial and industrial properties. Transportation and lunch provided. This tour sold out early at last year’s conference.
