The Impact of Large & Medium Scale Solar Projects on PA Communities

The webinar will provide a comprehensive discussion of large and medium scale solar developments on the PA landscape including where and why they are being sited, common concerns in communities, zoning and land use considerations in ordinance development and proposed legislation that could impact solar in PA.

The webinar will discuss:

  • Solar terminology including the differences and demands of large, medium and small-scale operations.
  • The physical impact of grid scale solar deployment.
  • Land Use implications including agricultural and open land issues, siting considerations and environmental impacts.
  • Economic impact of solar development.
  • Ordinance considerations including glare, noise, screening and decommissioning.
  • Proposed legislation.
  • What is the role of the planner in this process.

The webinar will be presented by Extension Educators, who closely follow developments with PJM (a regional transmission organization that coordinates the movement of wholesale electricity) and PUC (Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission) along with proposed legislation and policy changes as well as explain what is happening in the Commonwealth and why.   In addition, a perspective from a county planning department will be shared regarding local land use controls for solar facilities.

CM credit is pending approval. You must attend the webinar live in order to earn CM credit.
